This study involves synthesis of two types of the activated carbon from Iraqi zahdy date palm seeds and Iraqi khestawy date palm seeds.
These two types of activated carbon were synthesized using H
3
PO
as an activator. Synthesis processes of activated carbon were performed
by chemical activation method. The activity of these materials as adsorbents was investigated by following removal of reactive yellow dye
145 (RYD-145). Kinetics of adsorption and removal of reactive yellow as a model of the polluted dyes were investigated from batch tests.
Different reaction parameters and conditions were investigated, such as amount of loading of activated carbon and duration of the adsorption
process. The point zero charges of the synthesized samples were also calculated. It was found that Iraqi zahdy date palm seeds based
activated carbon was more efficient than Iraqi khestawy date palm seeds in dye removal under the same reaction conditions.
